Hillsborough, NC: Convicted Killer Ramone Alston Captured After Three-Day Manhunt

In a dramatic turn of events, Ramone Alston, a convicted murderer, has been apprehended following a tense three-day escape that had authorities and the community on high alert. The 29-year-old was captured early Friday morning around 2 a.m. at a hotel on Cloverleaf Parkway in Kannapolis.

Details of the Capture

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (DAC) confirmed that Alston was taken into custody with the collaborative efforts of local police, including the Kannapolis Police and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, along with the FBI Charlotte SWAT team. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the operation.

While investigators have kept quiet about the specific information that led them to Alston, a $50,000 reward was offered for details that would assist in his capture. As of now, it remains unclear if anyone will be claiming that money. One of the authorities involved, FBI Special Agent Bob Dewitt, stated, “I don’t want to get into the elements on how we were led to the hotel.”

Aiding and Abetting Charges

In the wake of Alston’s capture, a woman named Jacobia Crisp was arrested in Alamance County. She faces charges for felony aiding and abetting a fugitive, as investigators allege that she assisted Alston by driving him around during his time on the run. The specifics of their relationship and the extent of her involvement remain undisclosed.

The Manhunt for Alston

Ramone Alston was serving a life sentence for the tragic 2015 murder of 1-year-old Maleah Williams, who was shot during a Christmas celebration in Chapel Hill. Alston escaped while being transported for a hospital appointment on Tuesday, which sparked a large-scale search involving hundreds of law enforcement personnel.

In response to the escape, the two officers responsible for transporting Alston are currently under investigation, and their future roles will be determined based on the findings of this inquiry.

Ongoing Legal Consequences

After his recapture, Alston will face additional charges for felony escape. He remains committed to serving his life sentence for the first-degree murder of Maleah Williams. In related legal matters, Alston recently filed a motion to have his sentence reconsidered, claiming that the state presented misleading evidence against him. This motion was denied, with a judge stating that Alston had previously received a fair hearing.

The community breathes a sigh of relief now that Alston is back in custody, and the collaborative efforts of law enforcement serve as a reminder of their commitment to public safety.
