Renovated hotel to provide housing for more than 100 Charlotte families

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – An affordable housing project months in the making will soon open its doors to residents. Nonprofit group Heal Charlotte will cut the ribbon on the building, formerly the Baymont Inn along the Sugar Creek Corridor near I-85. It has been renovated and will provide families with an affordable place to live.

Background

The project started in September 2023 when the Charlotte City Council gave Heal Charlotte a more than $2 million grant. That money will allow the rooms to be leased to more than 100 families for a year. Wrap-around services for people experiencing homelessness will also be provided as part of the project.

Community Impact

“This is a win for the city,” Heal Charlotte founder Greg Jackson said in September. “It’s a win-win for the community and the city at the same time. This is the type of business that we need to see the city doing a lot more.”

Success Record

Heal Charlotte has a solid track record for helping families transition into permanent housing with its Housing Stability Program. Now, its latest effort will help even more families.
