Bank Expansion Excitement

Exciting News for Charlotte: Huntington National Bank is Expanding!

Hey there, folks! If you’ve been strolling around Charlotte lately, you might have heard some buzz in the banking world. Well, hold onto your hats because we’ve got some thrilling news: Huntington National Bank is making its move into the Carolinas! That’s right, this Ohio-based bank has announced plans to set up dozens of retail branches and create about 350 new jobs over the next few years, and Charlotte is at the forefront of this exciting venture.

What’s the Plan?

So, what’s in store for our lovely city of Charlotte? Huntington’s big plan includes opening around 55 retail branches throughout North Carolina and South Carolina, starting with locations in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Winston-Salem in the Tar Heel State, as well as Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville down South. While the bank hasn’t revealed the specific amount they’ll be investing in Charlotte, they’ve hinted that this is part of a multimillion-dollar growth strategy designed for long-term success.

According to Huntington’s spokeswoman, Mamie Moore-John, we can expect to see four new branches making their debut across the Carolinas next year. However, as of now, there’s no set opening date or location for the very first branch. So, stay tuned—it sounds like they’ll be creating quite the presence!

Facing the Competition

Now, let’s talk about the competition. Charlotte has its share of banking giants, with Bank of America, Truist, and Wells Fargo dominating the scene. Did you know that both Bank of America and Truist are headquartered right here in Charlotte? And with Wells Fargo calling the city its biggest employment hub, Huntington has quite the challenge as it steps into this bustling market.

But they’re not alone! Other banks are also jumping on the expansion bandwagon. For example, Chase Bank, based in New York, has plans to open 100 branches across the Carolinas by the end of next year. They’re even setting up four branches in Charlotte this year. So, it’s clear that the competition is heating up!

What’s Driving This Expansion?

Huntington established a regional headquarters in Charlotte just last year, starting off with around 40 finance employees situated at One South at 101 S. Tryon St. in uptown. Currently, they have more than 200 employees across the Carolinas. Heath Campbell, the executive managing director and regional president for the Carolinas, shared that Huntington believes in “investing locally.” This philosophy is clearly driving their decision to expand into our vibrant neighborhoods.

Huntington’s expansion isn’t just about setting up shop; it’s about bringing personal, wealth, business, and commercial banking services to customers throughout the region. Brant Standridge, the consumer and regional banking president, stated that the continual growth in the Carolinas makes it an ideal opportunity for Huntington to deepen its roots in the community.

Looking Beyond the Carolinas

Now, this isn’t just a Carolina-centric plan; Huntington has its sights set high! The bank’s multimillion-dollar investment and expansion strategy will also include cities like Denver, Minneapolis, and Chicago over the next few years. With about $196 billion assets under its belt, Huntington Bancshares Inc. has come a long way since its founding in 1866, operating approximately 970 branches across 11 states.

Wrapping Up

So, there you have it, Charlotte! Huntington National Bank is gearing up to make a significant impact in our community and beyond. Whether it’s through job creation or adding more banking options, this expansion is sure to be of interest to many. Keep your eyes peeled—there might just be a Huntington branch or two popping up near you before you know it!
