Hey there, Charlotte! It looks like we’re in for some interesting weather as we head into the peak of hurricane season. A little tropical disturbance is brewing just off our coast, and meteorologists are keeping a close eye on it.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring an area of low pressure that could get its act together over the next few days—resulting in the formation of Tropical Storm Helene. Right now, there’s about a 50% chance that this system will develop as it slowly makes its way northwestward. And while we’re all hoping this doesn’t disrupt our weekend plans, it might just bring a bit of rain and wind to our beautiful Carolina beaches starting Sunday evening.
Now, you might be wondering: “What about us here in Charlotte?” Well, it seems the bulk of the heavy rain and stronger winds are expected to mainly affect the coastal areas. However, we may feel some ripples from this system. The NHC suggests that higher rain chances will be confined mostly to the east of the city. If you have any plans this weekend, you might want to keep an eye on the radar!
As for this weekend’s weather, get ready for some changes. Starting with tonight, expect a mostly cloudy sky with mild temperatures. The low will settle around a comfortable 68°F, with winds coming from the northeast at about 10 to 20 mph and gusts possibly reaching 25 mph.
Moving to Sunday, anticipate more clouds than sunshine. There’s a slight chance of a stray shower creeping in. The high temperature will hit around 80°F, so don’t forget your sunscreen if you venture out! Winds will remain consistent, again blowing from the northeast and continuing with those pesky gusts.
When Sunday night rolls around, conditions will stay breezy under an overcast sky with a low near 65°F. Still a bit of wind in the mix, so hang on to your hats!
As we kick off the new week on Monday, gusty showers are expected, particularly concentrated on the eastern side of our beloved city. Expect a high around 74°F, which is warmer than the weekend but still a little brisk given the rain.
While the forecasts have a lot of moving pieces beyond Tuesday, there are some exciting trends that could be in store for us! The models hint at a transition towards warm and sunny conditions later in the week. By Wednesday through Friday, high temperatures are predicted to bounce back to near-normal levels in the 70s and 80s. If we do see any leftover moisture from potential Helene, it might just manifest as stray showers, but fingers crossed for more sunny breaks!
So, Charlotte, as we look to the weekend and the week ahead, keep an eye out on the weather forecasts! Stay tuned for updates as any changes in Tropical Storm Helene could certainly tweak our plans. Whether you’re planning to relax indoors or venture outside, just remember to stay informed and keep smiling, no matter what Mother Nature has in store for us!
