This past weekend, the vibrant city of Charlotte came alive as Vice President Kamala Harris rolled into town for a highly energized rally, just three days ahead of the 2024 presidential election. The event took place at the PNC Music Pavilion, that attracted an enthusiastic crowd of over 10,000 supporters, all eager to soak up the excitement and motivation.
The rally featured a dazzling array of speakers and musical performers, making it quite the spectacle for Charlotte’s political landscape. Not only did attendees hear from Vice President Harris, but they were also treated to speeches from big names including DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, and U.S. Representatives Alma Adams and Jeff Jackson, who’s currently running for Attorney General in North Carolina. NC Attorney General Josh Stein, who is vying for the governor’s office, and NC Gov. Roy Cooper were also in attendance.
Rounding out the political figures was former Mayor Pro Tem Braxton Winston, who is campaigning for the role of Secretary of Labor. The candidates were united in their support of Harris and emphasized how vital it is for voters to pay attention to down-ballot races in their state.
But this rally was not just about politics! It mixed in plenty of music and entertainment as well. Country singer Brittney Spencer and R&B sensation Khalid each serenaded the crowd with two songs, while actress Kerry Washington took the stage to deliver an inspired speech that motivated the crowd even more. And who could forget the legendary Jon Bon Jovi? He, alongside the talented War and Treaty, strummed out acoustic hits like “The People’s House” and “Livin’ on a Prayer,” sending the audience into a frenzy.
Finally, just before the clock struck 5 p.m., Vice President Harris herself hit the stage. Her speech was a spirited mix of her usual talking points, a few pointed jabs at her opponent, Donald Trump, and a call to action for all attendees to vote. However, the rally was not without its moments of disruption, as Harris was interrupted twice by protestors. But like a true pro, she quickly addressed the commotion and mentioned how it’s all a part of democracy. She then reminded the audience of her commitment to peace in the Middle East.
The audience spanned across all ages, filling Charlotte’s largest outdoor amphitheater from the front rows to the back. The energy was palpable, and every face in the crowd seemed to share a single mission: to make their voices heard this election season. Harris urged everyone to not only vote themselves but also to share the importance of voting with their family, friends, and neighbors.
After more than three hours of uplifting speeches and captivating performances, the crowd left the event buzzing with excitement. The only downside? The long lines of traffic that awaited them outside the venue as they headed home. But with the enthusiasm still buzzing in the air, it was clear that this rally was a resounding success for the Vice President and the North Carolina Democratic party.
With just a few days left until the big day, it’s safe to say that the energy in Charlotte was electric. Whether you’re a die-hard Harris supporter or just curious about the political frenzy, one thing is for sure: this rally left its mark.
