Charlotte’s Beloved Letty’s on Shamrock to Close After a Decade of Delicious Memories

Charlotte Bids Farewell to a Beloved Eatery: Letty’s on Shamrock Closing its Doors

Charlotte, get ready to say a heartfelt goodbye to Letty’s on Shamrock. After over a decade of serving up delicious dishes and creating lasting memories, owner Letty Ketner is hanging up her apron and heading into retirement at the end of this year. Yes, you heard it right! Mark your calendars for New Year’s Eve, because after that, Letty’s will be no more, and wow, what a ride it has been!

Home of Honey Pecan Chicken

Letty’s first opened its doors in October 2012 with a simple dream of selling a few popular dishes like Honey Pecan Chicken and hamburgers. However, it quickly transformed into a treasured spot for food lovers across East Charlotte and beyond. “I’ve been in Charlotte since 1985 and developed a lot of friendships,” Letty shared in an interview. “This restaurant has given me the chance to make even more.”

A Neighborhood Treasure

As many can attest, Letty’s has become more than just a restaurant; it’s been a community gathering place. Nestled in the vibrant Plaza-Shamrock neighborhood, it’s known for its welcoming vibe and delicious menu. With dishes like Hummachoes—a unique twist on nachos using hummus, the comforting vegetarian Neatloaf, and classic Country Fried Chicken with sides that could make anyone drool, it’s no surprise that people have traveled far and wide for a taste of this place.

Brunch Time Bliss

The pandemic brought many challenges, including the end of weekday lunches for Letty’s. But it also gave rise to a weekend brunch that has captivated locals! Guests rave about the tasty Fried Green Tomato Benedicts dressed in creole sauce, heavenly Shrimp & Grits, mouthwatering Brunch Burgers, and delightful Mediterranean Salads. It’s a brunch lover’s paradise! So if you haven’t tried it yet, now is the time!

Looking Ahead

As Letty steps away from the kitchen and into a new phase of life, she has exciting plans on her horizon. “I’ll be spending more time traveling, especially to the beach and New York City,” she said with a smile. “Owning a restaurant is very time-consuming, and I’ve got things I want to catch up on.” With her health in mind, she has a new determination to focus on her well-being.

Time to Say Goodbye

For the next couple of weeks, Letty’s will remain open for business as usual. The restaurant will observe regular hours while closing for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but that weekend brunch is here to stay until the very end. Letty hopes to see familiar faces as locals come in for one last plate of that beloved Honey Pecan Chicken. “If you have a favorite come on in—we’ll be here for the next couple of weeks,” she encourages patrons.

The Future for Letty’s Legacy

Even with the closure, Letty is optimistic about the future of this beloved dish. “Someone else will do Honey Pecan Chicken. I have not one bit of hesitation to share that,” she expressed. It sounds like Letty’s culinary legacy will live on in the hearts and bellies of her loyal customers.

So, Charlotte, as the clock ticks down to the end of the year, take the time to visit Letty’s on Shamrock before it’s too late. The flavors, food, and friendships that have blossomed here will always be fondly remembered.
