Charlotte, N.C.– Lydia’s Loft Prom Closet has donated and supplied thousands of gently used and new prom dresses and tuxedos to local students. Teenagers attending prom are invited to shop the prom closet in the old education building of The First Baptist Church of Huntersville every Saturday through the end of May. Rising’s Lauren McDonald met up with one of the co-founders of The Prom Closet to learn more about the mission and how it started.
Lydia’s Loft Prom Closet is a non-profit organization founded with the mission of providing free formalwear to local teens in need. The organization collects donations of gently used and new prom dresses, tuxedos, and accessories throughout the year to make prom night a special and memorable experience for all students.
The idea for Lydia’s Prom Closet began when co-founders noticed the financial strain that prom expenses put on some families. They wanted to create a space where teens could shop for prom attire at no cost, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to attend the event feeling confident and beautiful.
Teens visiting Lydia’s Prom Closet can browse through racks of dresses and tuxedos in various styles, sizes, and colors. Volunteers are on hand to assist students in finding the perfect outfit for their special night. The organization aims to create a boutique-like shopping experience for teens, complete with fitting rooms and accessories to complement their chosen attire.
Lydia’s Prom Closet relies on the support of the community to continue its mission. Donations of formalwear, shoes, jewelry, and monetary contributions help the organization provide free prom attire to local teens each year. By coming together, the community ensures that every student can participate in this memorable high school tradition.
Local teens interested in shopping at Lydia’s Prom Closet can visit the old education building of The First Baptist Church of Huntersville every Saturday through the end of May. The organization welcomes all high school students in need of formalwear for prom night and encourages them to take advantage of this opportunity to find their dream outfit.
