Hey there, Charlotte! Big news is coming your way! Marathon Health, an Indianapolis-based primary care provider, is shaking things up in our area. They’ve recently rolled out their open access network right here, with seven brand-new standalone facilities popping up all over the city!
So why is this expansion so exciting? Well, the concept behind *open access* is to make it super easy for folks in Charlotte to access primary healthcare. According to Marathon’s CEO, Jeff Wells, they’ve picked strategic markets like ours to ensure that patients can get the care they need *quickly and efficiently*. Each of these new facilities is its own building, but they’re all linked together and located within 10 miles of the places where qualifying patients work and live.
Wells points out that many employers in places like Charlotte are looking for options in value-based, independent primary care, and right now, there just isn’t enough of it. This open access model makes it easier for companies to offer their employees access to necessary healthcare right in their neighborhood. This means that more employees can benefit from this convenient network, making it a win-win situation!
Here’s where things get even more interesting: Marathon Health recently merged with Everside Health in February. This merger effectively doubled the size of Marathon and gave them more resources at their fingertips. According to previous reports, this merger is already proving its worth—it’s helping improve health outcomes while also allowing employers and union partners to cut down on their healthcare costs.
Wells shared some exciting news—patients are saving about $1,800 annually on average! Marathon is currently providing advanced primary care to an impressive 2.5 million patients across nearly 650 employer and union-sponsored clients. With operations spanning across more than 750 health centers in 41 states, including 60 right here in North Carolina, it’s clear they mean business!
As part of the expansion, Marathon is introducing some innovative services like care navigation. Through this service, providers can use an internal “e-consult” to figure out more efficiently if a patient needs a referral to a specialist outside the network. This tool enables the care team to send a patient’s case to some of the nation’s leading specialists for advice. They’ll provide feedback that either backs up the current care plan or suggests a referral is the best path forward.
Wells is optimistic about how well the integration has been going. “We’ve got the companies operating as one,” he said, adding that they are ahead of schedule for retaining clients while also expanding their reach in Charlotte and beyond. With plans for future growth, Marathon Health is definitely setting the stage for a healthier community!
So, what does this all mean for you, Charlotte? In short, you’ll have more opportunities to receive top-notch primary healthcare without needing to travel far. With Marathon’s commitment to making quality healthcare accessible, it seems like the future is looking bright. Stay tuned for more updates as the expansion continues to evolve!
