Severe weather conditions are causing significant changes to Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans and Jefferson Parish. Thunderstorms and heavy rain have forced the krewes to reschedule their parades, with key events moving to Tuesday night and Thursday. The Mystic Krewe of Barkus postpones its parade until March, while Family Gras relocates indoors. Adjustments also affect other krewes, making it challenging for parade enthusiasts. Despite the weather woes, the community is hopeful for continued festivities, with local authorities advising on safety measures during the celebrations.
Severe weather is making a splash, quite literally, as the beloved Mardi Gras parades in New Orleans and Jefferson Parish face rescheduling due to the forecast of thunderstorms and heavy rain. Grab your umbrellas and raincoats because it looks like Mother Nature is having a bit of fun!
The vibrant **krewes of Femme Fatale, Carrollton, and King Arthur**, originally set to strut their stuff on Sunday along the Uptown route, are now gearing up to parade on **Tuesday night** instead at **5:30 p.m.** It’s going to be a **“King Arthur After Dark”** kinda celebration, so expect those festivities to have a lively nighttime twist!
Over in Jefferson Parish, the **Krewe of Atlas** has shifted their parade from Sunday to **Thursday**, now marching after the **Krewe of Symphony**, which kicks off its parade at **6:30 p.m.** Also on the Northshore, both the **Krewe of Hyacinthians** and **Krewe of Titans** are set to roll on **Monday, February 24 at 6:00 p.m.**
The **Mystic Krewe of Barkus** won’t be barking down the streets just yet. Their parade is now postponed to **Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m.** Meanwhile, the **Krewe of Push Mow** in Abita Springs has made the tough call to completely **cancel** their parade that was initially planned for Sunday. It’s a tough break for the merry-makers in the area!
Family Gras in Metairie is also adjusting its plans, relocating to the **Pontchartrain Center** on Sunday. Doors will swing open at **2 p.m.**, just in time for a **3 p.m.** start. Enjoy some indoor festivities if the weather continues to misbehave!
With weather forecasts indicating a **100% chance of rain and thunderstorms** hitting beginning at noon on Sunday, it’s no wonder parade leaders are making these changes. In light of this, none of the New Orleans parades will include **marching bands** or any **“walking elements,”** as advised by local police authorities. It’s certainly a different vibe compared to the usual lively celebrations.
Not to be left out, the **Krewe of Dionysus** in Slidell has also shuffled their schedule, moving their parade from Sunday to **Friday, February 28**. Meanwhile, in Thibodaux, the **Krewe of Ambrosia** has completely **canceled** its parade for 2025. Though it’s sad to see some of these events not happening as planned, the **Krewe of Shaka** has successfully rescheduled for **Tuesday, March 4.**
Fans of the Family Gras concert series in Jefferson Parish will see a change as well, as concert lineups shift to feature **Amanda Shaw, Gabby Barrett**, and **Gary LeVox** of **Rascal Flatts** at the Pontchartrain Center. As parades take a rain check, let’s hope these concerts don’t miss a beat!
