A Mecklenburg County magistrate has been suspended due to misconduct charges, according to court documents obtained by HERE News. Chief District Court Judge Elizabeth Trosch accused Magistrate Robin Sabio of serious violations.
Within the court documents, Trosch alleged that Sabio failed to complete the necessary courses required to be a magistrate. It was reported that Sabio only finished 21.25 hours of the mandated 27.75 hours of training. This failure to meet the educational requirements has raised concerns about Sabio’s qualifications for the position.
Furthermore, Trosch stated that Sabio did not report for her scheduled shift on February 12, 2024, and failed to show up for any scheduled shifts until February 29, 2024. This absenteeism raised red flags about Sabio’s commitment to her duties as a magistrate.
In addition to the incomplete training and absenteeism, Trosch revealed that over $2,000 in bond money went missing during two of Sabio’s cases in Cabarrus County. The missing funds caused significant concern and investigation into the handling of financial matters by Sabio.
It was disclosed that more than a month later, the missing bond money was discovered in Sabio’s laptop bag, further raising questions about her ability to fulfill the responsibilities of a magistrate.
The accusations of misconduct against Magistrate Robin Sabio have led to her suspension pending further investigation into the reported violations. The seriousness of the allegations has prompted a thorough review of Sabio’s actions and conduct while serving as a magistrate in Mecklenburg County.
Chief District Court Judge Elizabeth Trosch emphasized the importance of upholding the standards and requirements set forth for magistrates to ensure the fair and effective administration of justice in the county.
The suspension of Magistrate Robin Sabio and the misconduct charges she faces highlight the significance of accountability and adherence to the regulations governing judicial positions. The outcome of the investigation into Sabio’s alleged violations will determine the appropriate course of action to uphold the integrity of the magistrate role in Mecklenburg County.
HERE News will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates on any further developments regarding Magistrate Robin Sabio’s suspension and misconduct charges.
