Charlotte, NC – A cool breeze swept through the lovely Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre on Saturday night, as music lovers gathered for a memorable evening filled with the sounds of two iconic artists, Melissa Etheridge and Jewel. I must confess, even though I’m a long-time fan of Etheridge’s music, this was my very first time witnessing her performance live, and boy, did she deliver!
At 63 years old, Melissa Etheridge is truly a seasoned pro; she has been captivating audiences since 1986. Her set exuded confidence and expertise, striking the perfect balance between ferocious guitar riffs and soul-stirring vocals. As Etheridge took center stage, she ignited the crowd with her unmistakable energy and passion for music.
The evening kicked off with Jewel, the bring-you-to-your-feet folk singer-songwriter, who charmed the audience with her soothing voice and genuine joy on stage. It’s hard not to feel uplifted when surrounded by thousands of concertgoers singing along to beloved songs like “Who Will Save Your Soul” and “You Were Meant For Me.” Jewel, who has captivated audiences since her breakout debut album Pieces of Me in 1995, showcased a delightful mix of her classic hits and brand-new material, leaving fans grinning from ear to ear.
Both artists performed for about 80 minutes each, making it a perfect evening filled with nostalgia and heartwarming melodies. Jewel’s performance really stood out, as she was in her element, thoroughly enjoying herself with every strum of her guitar and with each word sung. If you’ve ever been to a concert where the atmosphere is just electric, you know how special it felt in that amphitheater on Saturday night.
After Jewel dazzled the crowd, it was time for Melissa Etheridge to take the stage, and she wasted no time getting down to business. Her setlist was a powerful representation of her career, as she belted out some of her biggest hits, including “Come to My Window” and “I’m the Only One.” But what really got the crowd roaring were her blistering guitar riffs and the raw emotion in her voice.
Here’s a snapshot of the magic that was delivered during Etheridge’s set:
As the last notes resonated through the amphitheater, you could feel a sense of gratitude and fulfillment among the audience. These two remarkable artists not only shared their music but also their passion, connecting with fans in a way that only live music can provide.
Etheridge and Jewel are currently touring together and will continue to do so until October 5, after which Etheridge will venture into a series of solo shows. If you’re lucky enough to catch her on this tour, or if she’s stopping in your city for a solo show, make sure to grab your tickets – you won’t want to miss out on this musical experience.
As we all look forward to more amazing performances, be sure to keep an eye on your local music scene!
