Tragic Loss in Charlotte: Young Man with Disabilities Takes Life After Cyberstalking Incident

Tragic Turn of Events in Charlotte: A Story of Vulnerability and Misguided Actions

Charlotte finds itself reeling as new details emerge from a heartbreaking case that highlights the risks faced by individuals with mental disabilities. A young man, known only as “C.T.,” lived a life fraught with challenges, and sadly, the tragic turn of events that unfolded in early September has led to an incredibly unsettling outcome.

Victim of Crime and Cyberstalking

C.T. was just 26 years old, living with his father, and struggling with his daily activities due to his mental disability. Reports reveal that he functioned at a fourth-grade reading level and a second-grade math level. Due to his circumstances, he relied heavily on his family for guidance, even needing his mother’s support to manage his finances and daily tasks.

On September 5, while working at a local Chick-fil-A, C.T. became the victim of a heinous act when Trysten Anthony Cullon, 26, and Jade Ashlynn Stone, 25, approached him under false pretenses. They stole his phone, which triggered a disastrous chain of events. C.T.’s mother, who resides in Florida, quickly reached out via text to the stolen phone, hoping to return it to her son and alleviate his distress.

Descent into Chaos

Two days later, instead of returning the phone, Cullon and Stone made their move to intimidate C.T. They responded to his mother’s texts from a different stolen phone, threatening to ruin C.T.’s life, claiming he was a “pervert,” and demanding $300. Their messages contained crude accusations that would have understandably shaken anyone, especially a young man like C.T., who already faced significant challenges.

In a shocking twist, they even transferred money from C.T.’s accounts, labeling the withdrawals as mundane expenses to justify their exploitation. The threats didn’t stop there – they reached out to C.T.’s family, indicating that unless they received the money, they would leak damaging information to C.T.’s employer and family.

Fear Leads to Unimaginable Tragedy

The implications of the cyberstalking and threats sent C.T. into a spiral of fear and anxiety. He was left feeling trapped, believing that his job and reputation were under siege due to the actions of two individuals with malicious intentions. Just a few days later, on September 8, the unbearable weight of this harassment led him to take his own life at home, a place that should have been his sanctuary.

Facing Justice

As the community grapples with this tragic situation, Cullon and Stone have been indicted on serious charges, including wire fraud conspiracy, conspiracy to commit extortion, and conspiracy to commit cyberstalking. Each could face a maximum sentence of 45 years in prison if convicted. Their actions not only affected C.T. but have also left a lasting impact on his family and the community at large.

Community Response

The troubling events surrounding C.T. shine a harsh light on the issue of bullying and harassment, especially targeting vulnerable individuals. Charlotte is rallying to provide support for individuals with disabilities to prevent such a distressing situation from happening again. There’s a push for greater awareness and improved protections for those who may not have the means to defend themselves against cyber harassment.

This heart-wrenching story serves as a powerful reminder of how important it is to foster a culture of kindness and understanding in our society. As this case unfolds, we can only hope for justice for C.T. and his family, and for awareness to prevent future tragedies.
