Big Changes at TIH: New CEO Dave Obenauer Set to Lead as Company Embraces Independence

Big Changes at TIH: New Leadership Takes the Helm in Charlotte

Good news is on the horizon for the folks at TIH, as the Charlotte-based insurance brokerage gears up for an exciting new chapter. After being owned by Truist Financial for many years, TIH announced this week that it has named Dave Obenauer as its new CEO, starting January 1st, 2024.

From President to CEO: A Journey of Experience

Obenauer, who has been with the company since 2007, steps into this pivotal role with an impressive background. With more than 35 years of experience in the insurance industry, he knows a thing or two about navigating the ins and outs of the business. As president, he played a crucial role in transforming TIH into the seventh-largest insurance broker in the U.S., a feat that has certainly made waves in the industry.

Saying Goodbye to a Leader

Obenauer takes over from John Howard, who has been at the helm for the past 20 years. Howard has worn many hats over his illustrious career, leading various companies in the insurance realm. Even as he transitions to the role of vice chair, he isn’t disappearing just yet. Rest assured, he will still be a guiding force on TIH’s board and continue to touch base on other industry boards and committees.

In a heartfelt statement, Howard expressed his confidence in Obenauer, saying, “Dave is a trusted partner, a thought leader in our industry, and a close confidant and friend. I have complete confidence and respect for him as he embarks on his new journey leading our company forward.”

The Road to Independence

Just a little over six months ago, TIH established itself as an independent entity after being sold by Truist Financial Corp. in a staggering $15.5 billion deal. This independence has set the stage for a fresh insurance-focused strategy that Obenauer is eager to lead. “I am thrilled at the opportunity to assume the CEO position at TIH starting next year — and moving forward with the insurance-focused strategy we have been executing since becoming fully independent in May,” said Obenauer, highlighting his enthusiasm for the road ahead.

The Future Looks Bright

As the company charts its future under new leadership, it operates over 200 offices and boasts nearly 10,000 employees. The momentum and commitment to excellence are palpable as the brokerage seeks to redefine its mark in the industry. Given Obenauer’s passion and extensive knowledge, there’s plenty of optimism surrounding TIH’s capabilities to not just meet but exceed expectations.

In the eyes of the local Charlotte community, this new leadership is an exciting development. TIH’s continued growth and success are crucial not only for its employees but for the many clients and partnerships it maintains throughout the country. As the company takes on new challenges and opportunities, everyone in the Queen City will be watching closely.

Charlotte’s Insurers: What’s Next?

As we look to the future, many are wondering what exactly Obenauer’s plans entail. What new initiatives or innovations will be rolled out? How will TIH adapt to the ever-changing landscape of the insurance market? As questions swirl, one thing is certain: the new CEO’s leadership promises to enhance TIH’s reputation and service delivery across the board.

Charlotte’s insurance scene is buzzing, and with news like this, it’s hard not to feel a sense of excitement for what’s to come. Stay tuned as TIH embarks on this promising journey with Obenauer at the helm!
