Triangle and Charlotte Areas Shine in Latest North Carolina School Rankings

The cities of Triangle and Charlotte are celebrating a significant achievement as they have been prominently featured in the latest rankings of public elementary and middle schools across North Carolina. U.S. News & World Report’s newly released list has highlighted the excellence of educational institutions within these regions, particularly within the Wake County, Charlotte-Mecklenburg, and Union County school systems.

Who Made the List?

Four schools from these districts made it into the top 10 elementary schools and four into the top 10 middle schools in North Carolina. The schools recognized for their outstanding performance include:

  • Brown Summit Middle School in Guilford County
  • Mills Park Middle School in Cary, Wake County
  • Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy, a charter school in Charlotte
  • Marvin Ridge Middle School in Union County
  • The Brawley School in Mooresville, Iredell-Statesville Schools

What Criteria Were Used?

In compiling the rankings, U.S. News evaluated a total of 79,000 public elementary and middle schools nationwide. The analysis relied on data from the U.S. Department of Education, focusing on student performance in standardized state math and reading exams. Schools were assessed based on their passing rates, as well as their performance relative to predicted scores, which considered student demographics. Furthermore, student-teacher ratios served as a tie-breaking criterion.

Details of the Findings

The results reflect a significant commitment to education in the Triangle and Charlotte areas. Here are some of the top schools recognized:

  • 1. Brown Summit Middle School (Guilford County)
  • 2. Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy (Charter, Charlotte)
  • 3. Marvin Ridge Middle School (Union County)
  • 4. Mills Park Middle School (Wake County)
  • 5. Weddington Middle School (Union County)

In terms of elementary schools, the top-ranked institutions included:

  • 1. The Academy at Lincoln (Guilford County)
  • 2. White Oak Elementary School (Wake County)
  • 3. Providence Spring Elementary School (Charlotte-Mecklenburg)
  • 4. Green Hope Elementary School (Wake County)
  • 5. Rea View Elementary School (Union County)

When Were Rankings Released?

The rankings for elementary and middle schools were released earlier this month, while the high school rankings were published in April of this year. These periodic assessments help to paint a picture of educational performance across the state.

Why This Matters

The recognition of these schools is essential for several reasons. It underscores the hard work of educators, administrators, students, and parents in fostering a quality learning environment. Additionally, it helps other families in North Carolina understand the educational landscape, guiding their decisions regarding schooling.

The results from the ranking can serve as a valuable resource for current and prospective students and parents. Schools across the Triangle and Charlotte areas have reason to celebrate their achievements in the 2025 Best Elementary and Middle Schools rankings.
