The Queen City Gears Up for Clean the Queen Event

Charlotte, NC – Earth Day is right around the corner, and the Queen City is getting ready for the third annual Clean the Queen event. From April 15-20, Envision Charlotte, Keep Charlotte Beautiful, and City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services will host a week-long series of volunteer events during Earth Week. This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to come together and make a positive impact on the environment and the city.

Join the Effort

Volunteers have the option to participate in activities such as picking up litter around the city or helping to create sound panels. The Clean the Queen event is highly popular, and spots are filling up fast. Interested individuals can check the Envision Charlotte Google Calendar to view available volunteer slots. Each day will feature two shifts – the first from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the second from 1:30-4 p.m. With space for 10 volunteers per shift, spots are quickly being claimed. To secure a spot or inquire about availability, email erica@envisioncharlotte.org. It is recommended not to sign up for more slots than necessary, as accommodating extra participants on the day of the event is easier than holding unused spots.

Cleaning Strategy

Volunteers will convene at the Innovation Barn at the beginning of their shift, where they will receive instructions, maps, and equipment from Solid Waste Services and Keep Charlotte Beautiful. The site offers restroom facilities, a water fountain, and a refillable water bottle station for convenience. Parking is available in front of and behind the building, along with spaces on Otts Street. Carpooling is encouraged to minimize vehicles. Change Please Coffee will also be open throughout the week for volunteers to grab a drink or snack.

Friendly Competitions and Prizes

Participants in Clean the Queen can enjoy some friendly competitions and a bingo game with the chance to win prizes. Contests will be held for the most volunteers from one company, the most litter picked up by one company, and the most sound panels created by one company. The week-long volunteer efforts will culminate in a celebration on Saturday, April 20, where all volunteers are invited to attend. Winners of the contests and prize drawings will be announced during the festivities.

Community Collaboration

Keep Charlotte Beautiful, which recently marked its 50th anniversary, will provide volunteers with vests, gloves, litter pickers, and bags for the event. The organization works on various initiatives to educate and inspire Charlotte residents to contribute to the enhancement and beautification of the community. Clean the Queen is just one of the many projects that Keep Charlotte Beautiful collaborates on.

Let’s Clean Together

Let’s come together to clean and beautify the Queen City, making it an even better place to live, work, and play. Join the effort during Earth Week and be a part of the positive change happening in Charlotte!
