CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Get ready, folks! The celebration of our country’s brave men and women is about to kick off in Uptown Charlotte this weekend. That’s right, the 2024 Salute to Veterans Parade is happening on Saturday, November 9, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It’s a day to honor those who have donned the uniform of the United States Armed Forces, and it promises to be an event filled with enthusiasm and gratitude!
Put on by the Carolinas Freedom Foundation, this annual parade is expected to draw more than 2,000 participants ready to show their respect for our veterans. The parade will kick off at Tryon and Ninth Street before heading south toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. It’s a great way to bring the community together and show support for those who have made tremendous sacrifices for our country.
So, you’re excited to hit the streets for the parade? Fantastic! However, it’s wise to plan ahead, especially when it comes to traffic. Road closures will begin as early as 8 a.m. on Saturday. Specifically, the setup area (that’s between 11th and 9th on Tryon) will be impacted, along with sections of North Tryon Street down to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
As the parade time approaches, expect side streets along the parade route to close off as well, going all the way down to Brooklyn Village Avenue. But don’t fret—everything should be back open by 2 p.m. to help you get back to your Saturday plans.
Public transport riders, take note! The CATS Gold Line service will also be temporarily suspended between the CTC and French Street stations from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Don’t worry though, it’s not all doom and gloom. The Gold Line will still be operating between the Sunnyside and CTC stations on a 20-minute headway. A bus bridge will come to the rescue and provide extra service between CTC and French Street during parade hours.
If you’re planning to attend, come with your friends and family and be ready to wave your flags and cheer for our heroes! It’s not just a parade; it’s a powerful reminder of our community’s solidarity and appreciation for the sacrifices made by veterans. There will be plenty of floats, marching bands, and maybe even some surprise appearances. A picture-perfect day for the whole community awaits!
Let’s remember to share the spirit of kindness, camaraderie, and thankfulness as we salute our veterans this weekend. As always, whether you’re heading out to join the revelry or just want to steer clear of traffic, stay safe and enjoy the festive atmosphere that only Uptown Charlotte can bring. Here’s to a fabulous Veterans Day celebration!
