In the quiet streets of South Charlotte, a family faces an emotional ordeal as they desperately search for their beloved dog, Pete, who was stolen right from their front yard. The Humphreys, who adopted the two-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel just months ago, cannot understand why someone would commit such an act.
On a rainy Thursday afternoon, Logan Humphreys let Pete out into their backyard for a quick potty break, something the family does regularly. “He’s kind of been the mascot of the block,” shared her husband Charlie Humphreys. “Pretty much everyone knows Pete.” But this time, as Logan called for him, nothing seemed right. Pete was nowhere to be found.
Frantically searching their neighborhood, the couple was heartbroken to discover that Pete didn’t simply wander off—he was indeed taken. A neighbor shared a blurry doorbell video that captured the shocking moment: someone picked up the small dog and handed him over to a driver waiting in a silver Honda CRV.
The couple immediately filed a police report, believing that community involvement could be their best chance at finding Pete. They have been going door-to-door in their neighborhood, asking residents if they have any surveillance footage of the vehicle or have seen the car around the area. “We don’t have any leads right now, and that’s been tough,” said Logan, her voice brimming with worry.
To further raise awareness, the Humphreys have started hanging posters around their neighborhood in hopes that someone might recognize Pete and provide information. “He wears a collar with our phone numbers on it,” Logan explained. However, they noted that Pete is not microchipped, which adds to their concern.
For those in the South Charlotte community who can assist in finding him, Logan provided a detailed description: “He’s small, with a thin white line between his eyes and a brown spot near his muzzle. He’s very friendly and approachable.” Given his friendly demeanor, the couple hopes that someone might have seen him since he loves to play and bond with people.
The Humphreys expressed their bewilderment regarding the motives behind Pete’s theft. While they hope it’s just a misunderstanding, they can’t shake the feeling that there may be a more sinister reason behind the dognapping. “The only thing I truly can come up with is that he’s a thoroughbred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and they want to resell him,” shared Logan.
Desperate to have Pete back, the family is offering a reward of $500 for his safe return, stating that they are willing to negotiate. “He’s priceless to us,” Charlie added, emphasizing that their priority is not to punish the perpetrator but merely to reunite with their furry family member.
The Humphreys have reached out to local authorities, but as of now, the police have no leads in the case. “If you see something or know anything, please reach out,” urged Logan. They are encouraging anyone with information about Pete’s whereabouts to contact them immediately at either 864-380-6922 or 864-354-9491. They remain hopeful that with the community’s support, they can bring their cherished pet back home where he belongs.
