Charlotte, North Carolina Welcomes Strawberry Season!

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and you know what that means—it’s time for strawberry season in the Carolinas! This delicious time of year kicks off in mid-April and typically runs through the end of May, making it the perfect opportunity to gather your family and friends for some sweet outdoor fun.

Peak Picking Time!

In 2025, mark your calendars for peak strawberry season from late April to early May. If you’re in the Mooresville area, Carrigan Farms will officially open its U-pick strawberry field on April 24. This local gem doesn’t just offer U-pick strawberries; they also have pre-picked strawberries and a selection of other seasonal goodies like asparagus for those looking to add some variety to their baskets.

Costs and Convenience

At Carrigan Farms, you can fill up a basket of luscious strawberries with prices starting at $22 for a 4-quart basket of U-pick strawberries and $24 for pre-picked$8, whether you pick it yourself or choose from the pre-picked selection.

Feeling like avoiding large crowds? It’s a good idea to visit Carrigan Farms on weekdays, as they don’t require reservations. This way, you can enjoy a leisurely day of strawberry picking without the hustle and bustle of weekend crowds!

Year-Round Fun at Carrigan Farms

And, if you think strawberries are all Carrigan Farms has to offer, think again! Get ready for open swim at their beautiful quarry starting mid-May, apple picking in September, and a pumpkin patch that’s perfect for family outings in October.

Wise Acres Organic Farm: Your Other Local Strawberry Destination

Just a short drive away in Indian Trail, Wise Acres Organic Farm is gearing up for its strawberry picking season too, with an opening date planned for April 19, 2025. If you’re planning to visit, make sure to reserve your spot starting April 7, as spots tend to fill up quickly!

At Wise Acres, the admission is a steal at $2 per person for strawberry picking, and you’ll pay $4.09 per pound for those juicy red berries. Don’t miss out on the special weekend packages that feature pizza from Wise Pie on April 26—not only can you pick strawberries, but you can grab a delicious meal as well!

Additional Offerings at Wise Acres

While you’re there, indulge in fresh-cut flowers, refreshing slushies, and other farm-fresh delights available inside the cozy red barn. Once strawberry season wraps up, they’ll continue with summer blueberry and sunflower picking, along with a fall pumpkin patch and even a Christmas tree season in late November.

Other Farms to Explore

Spring is a delightful time for strawberry lovers, and there are many farms to choose from! Springs Farm in Fort Mill has been serving up local produce since 1938 and will soon announce its reopening for strawberry season, so keep a lookout on their website for details.

However, not all farms will be available for picking this year. The Hunter Farm in Weddington won’t offer strawberry picking in 2025 to allow the fields to rest, with a hopeful return in 2026. But don’t worry—Spring Fridays will be back starting April 11, featuring wagon rides and a petting barn. Just be sure to make reservations for the rides, and know that parking will cost you $10.

Exploring Local Farms

With various local farms such as Springs Farm, Carrigan Farms, Wise Acres, and Black’s Peaches, there’s no shortage of places to enjoy U-pick strawberries. Most farms in the Charlotte area don’t require reservations, but make sure to check ahead for strawberry availability, as these sweet treats can go fast!

As you head out to pick your berries, remember to look for the glossiest strawberries and avoid those bruised or moldy ones. With a total of about 1,100 acres of strawberry-producing fields in North Carolina, the state holds its head high as the fourth-largest strawberry producer in the U.S.

So gear up and get ready for some berry-picking adventures in the Carolinas. It’s time to make some delicious memories!
