CHARLOTTE — It was a day filled with smiles and excitement at Renaissance West STEAM Academy on a joyful Tuesday afternoon. Dozens of students experienced a moment of pure delight as they were presented with new prescription eyeglasses that would change their outlook on learning and life!
Among the attendees were Nicole Tepper, the co-founder of the David and Nicole Tepper Foundation, along with Carolina Panthers’ Trevin Wallace, and Charlotte FC’s Patrick Agyemang. They were joined by fan-favorite mascots, Sir Purr and Sir Minty, making it an unforgettable event for the kids! These local heroes came together to lend a helping hand in helping the children try on their new glasses for the very first time.
The day marked a special announcement as the David and Nicole Tepper Foundation revealed a stunning $1.5 million dollar donation to Vision To Learn. This contribution is aimed at expanding the organization’s phenomenal work in providing critical eye care for thousands of kids across the region.
Nicole Tepper passionately shared, “You’re talking about kids getting diagnosed with different learning disabilities, ADHD, and they just can’t see, and so just a simple eye exam and the problem is sorta solved.” Her enthusiasm shone through, as she expressed her excitement about being part of such a transformative initiative that helps tackle a fundamental issue affecting many young learners.
Since its launch in Charlotte back in 2019, Vision To Learn has made a significant impact by providing a staggering 105,000 vision screenings to children throughout the Carolinas. To date, the organization has supplied a remarkable 32,000 pairs of prescription glasses to students, all at no cost to families. This means a great deal, especially for those who often struggle to afford necessary eye care.
The event at Renaissance West STEAM Academy was a beautiful testament to the power of community and collaboration. Students who may have previously faced challenges due to poor vision were now empowered with the tool they needed to see the world clearly. Parents and teachers alike celebrated the transformations occurring right before their eyes!
As kids tried on their new glasses, the excitement was palpable! Giggles and laughter filled the air as they posed for pictures, showcasing their new look. For many kids, this event was not just about glasses; it was about providing a sense of belonging and belief in their ability to succeed in school and beyond.
With this continued support from the Tepper Foundation and Vision To Learn, imaginations will run wild, dreams will take flight, and barriers to learning will diminish. It is a heartwarming reminder that sometimes, all it takes is a little help to make the world a more accessible place for everyone, especially our vibrant youth!
As the day came to a close, the energy and enthusiasm of the students served as a shining beacon of hope, proving that with vision, patience, and generosity, the future looks bright for all.
