Charlotte is about to see some exciting developments on its food scene! The popular West Coast fast-casual chain, Sweetgreen, has officially set its sights on expanding in the Charlotte area after making its North Carolina debut only last month. With the city buzzing about this health-conscious eatery, it seems that residents will soon have even more delicious options to choose from.
Sweetgreen recently filed a verification form with the city of Charlotte on a delightful Friday, signaling plans to make some enhancements at their upcoming spot located at 1404 Central Ave. in the thriving Plaza Midwood neighborhood.
This new location promises to include a chic patio, making it a perfect spot for some fresh air dining in the warmer months. The form is part of the process to determine the requirements for setting up shop in this popular area where health-conscious eating is in high demand. As of now, officials with Sweetgreen have not responded to queries, leaving us with lots of anticipation!
For those who may not be familiar with Sweetgreen, they specialize in customizable salads, warm bowls, and protein plates, all priced between $12 and $15. This makes eating well both accessible and versatile! We can already picture the delicious combinations that Charlotteans can craft for their next meal.
And there’s more good news! Hot on the heels of the uptown location’s opening at One Independence Center on 101 N. Tryon St., Sweetgreen also opened another location in Raleigh just this past Tuesday. But wait, there’s even more! A third location is already planned for Birkdale Village in Huntersville, situated at 16844 Birkdale Commons Parkway. This site will be found within a charming standalone building creatively dubbed “jewel boxes” by Warby Parker.
The Plaza Midwood location will be part of the massive $50 million redevelopment project known as Commonwealth by Crosland Southeast and Nuveen Real Estate. This exciting venture is transforming 12 acres into a mixed-use area with an impressive 100,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space along with structured parking. How great is that?
The food scene here is shaping up fabulously! Other eateries within the Commonwealth development will include fan favorites like Five Guys, the beloved The Salty doughnut shop hailing from Miami, and the unique Japanese dining experience of Uchi and Uchiba, complete with a cocktail bar. Plus, there’s Brooklyn’s own Van Leeuwen ice cream to satisfy your sweet tooth.
As if that wasn’t enough, the development will also incorporate more retailers like Lucchese Boots and an ABC store. For those looking to elevate their health, wellness enthusiasts can enjoy spots like Solidcore, Yonder Yoga, and Sweathouz offering cold plunge and infrared sauna experiences.
With an ambitious plan to open up to 35 additional stores nationwide, Sweetgreen is certainly on the move. Currently, the brand boasts over 230 stores spread across 20 states as well as Washington D.C., providing job opportunities to over 6,000 employees companywide.
So, Charlotte, are you ready for the flavorful, customizable meals that Sweetgreen will soon bring to your neighborhoods? The countdown is officially on, and we can’t wait to see how this healthy food chain will further enrich our vibrant city!
