Charlotte Shines Bright as Communities Come Together for Thanksgiving
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — This Thanksgiving, the Champion House of Care brought hope and warmth to the chilly morning as they served meals to residents in need. For the fifth consecutive year, this heartwarming event became a beacon of support for families, ensuring that everyone could partake in the spirit of the season.
A Bigger Gathering This Year
Typically, the event reaches out to around 300 families, but this time, with collaboration from the CMS’s McKinney-Vento families, organizers anticipated a greater turnout. “When you’re on the street, you don’t know where your next meal is coming from. And to know this is Thanksgiving when families are supposed to be together,” shared Janette Kinard, the Executive Director of Champion House of Care.
A Heartfelt Thank You
As delighted attendees walked away with full plates, the gratitude was palpable. “I don’t even know if we would’ve had a Thanksgiving dinner if it hadn’t been for these guys. You can’t even put it into words. It’s a blessing that they’re out there doing that for people,” said Matthew and Brandie Correll. Their hope is to return the favor and spread kindness in the coming year.
Two Locations, One Purpose
With setups at two convenient locations, the volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure no one went home empty-handed. Attendees enjoyed a hearty feast, which included mac and cheese, rice, green beans, and all the fixings that make a Thanksgiving meal complete. The atmosphere was filled with smiles and the aroma of delicious food wafting through the air, showcasing the essence of community support.
A Lesson in Gratitude
The event serves not only to fill stomachs but also to sow seeds of compassion and giving back. Kinard passionately emphasized, “This could’ve been me – out here with no clothes and no food. So, I am grateful to know that I can give back to others and teach my kids and grandkids how to give back before you give to yourself.” In this statement lies a profound lesson that resonates deeply during the holiday season.
Community Impact
The sheer number of attendees at this event reflects the increasing need for support within the community. With so many facing hardships, events like this become lifelines for families striving to enjoy a traditional holiday gathering. People’s collective efforts to lend a hand during such times speak volumes about the warmth and unity that Charlotte embodies.
Looking Ahead
The Champion House of Care and its dedicated volunteers have shown that even the smallest act of kindness can make a significant difference. As the event concluded, many left with not only full bellies but also hearts full of hope. The prospect of giving back and paying the kindness forward is surely on the minds of the participants.
The community gathered not just to share a meal but to create lasting bonds, to uplift one another, and to celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving in its truest form. With this successful event behind them, the Champion House of Care is already looking forward to next year, further igniting the flame of hope and generosity.
So, whether it’s sharing a meal or offering support, remember that even in difficult times, there’s power in coming together. Charlotte, you truly exemplify the meaning of community.
