Hey, folks! If you’re in or around Uptown Charlotte, get ready for a busy weekend filled with festivities and some road closures. This Saturday night is the highly anticipated Concert for Carolina, a benefit show that promises a fantastic evening of music and fun, and guess what? Expect at least 3,000 music lovers to flock to the area!
As the event draws near, road closures will start bright and early on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and will stretch all the way until 11:30 p.m.. If you’re planning to navigate the area, you’ll want to be aware of these specific closures:
Thinking of alternatives? Traffic Team 9 has suggested using Church Street or North Tryon Street instead to dodge the expected traffic congestion. If you did not snag a ticket for the concert, don’t worry! There will be a livestream available on Veeps for fans to catch all the action from home.
But wait, there’s more! Coming up on November 27th, we have the beloved Thanksgiving Eve Parade. This is not just any parade; it’s the 78th annual celebration that promises to bring in around 100,000 live spectators and 1 million households tuning in! The parade kicks off at 5:45 p.m., with a live broadcast starting at 6 p.m..
The route will stretch one mile long, from 9th Street to Good Samaritan Way along Tryon Street. There is also a special VIP section with reserved seating, but guess what? Those tickets are already sold out too! Non-VIPs will have plenty of opportunities to snag a spot along Tryon Street between 9th Street and Brooklyn Village Avenue.
To make way for the parade, significant road closures will begin a few days before the event. Starting on Monday, November 25th, closures will commence at 6 p.m. on Tryon Street, affecting the area between Brooklyn Village Avenue and Good Samaritan Way.
On Tuesday, November 26th, at 10 p.m., more closures will hit Tryon Street between 9th Street and 11th Street, along with additional cross-streets. Finally, on the parade day itself, expect most road closures to start from 5 p.m. as streets like Tryon Street, and 3rd through 8th Streets close down for the festivities.
All roads are expected to reopen by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, so you can get back to your travels afterward.
Pro tip for all you parade-goers: arrive early to secure a good viewing spot before 5:30 p.m.. Be sure to check nearby parking garages for availability online at parkme.com. And if you prefer a hassle-free commute to the parade, the light rail services will be available at three stations along the parade route. Tickets can be purchased at Ticket Vending Machines or through the CATS-Pass mobile app.
So, mark your calendars and make plans to enjoy the music and the parade! Charlotte is buzzing with excitement, and you won’t want to miss a moment of the fun!
