$10,000 grant offers financial assistance to first-time veteran homebuyers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (February 12, 2025) Veterans Bridge Home (VBH), a leading non-profit organization dedicated to connecting, leading and advocating for veterans and their families across the Carolinas, in partnership with True Homes and Truist, has launched the Pathway to Homeownership Grant Program for veterans, a new initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to first-time veteran homebuyers. The program will offer $10,000 grants to assist veterans with down payments and closing costs, making homeownership more accessible to those who have served in the military.

This grant will address a significant barrier for many veterans, who often face challenges in purchasing a home due to the unique demands of military service, including frequent relocations. This program is designed to empower veterans in the Metrolina, Triad and Triangle areas of North Carolina to achieve the dream of owning a home and invest in their future.

“Homeownership is a cornerstone to building generational wealth, but many veterans face obstacles in obtaining it,” said Blake Bourne, executive director of Veterans Bridge Home. “Through the Pathway to Homeownership Grant Program, we are providing veterans with the financial assistance they need to purchase their first home and secure their future.”

With the continued support of True Homes, Truist and the Charlotte Realtor Association, VBH remains dedicated to providing meaningful resources that assist veterans in making the transition to civilian life and achieving long-term financial stability.

“At True Homes, we believe that everyone deserves a place to call home, especially those who have served our country,” said Chelsea Mershon, program manager at True Homes. “We’re honored to partner with Veterans Bridge Home on this initiative, ensuring that more veterans can achieve the dream of homeownership and build lasting financial stability for their families.”

VBH will work with realtors and mortgage companies to identify veteran families that qualify for assistance. Additionally, VBH will accept direct requests for support through the website. Veterans interested in applying can find full details on eligibility and the application process here.
